ideas transformed into reality: the role of mockups

Mockups give you a realistic presentation of your design applied to a product, package, screen, or other real-world object. Instead of viewing the artwork on a plain canvas, a mockup lets you see how it would look in a finished environment. These customizable graphics are useful for presentations, portfolios, online stores, and client approvals.

how to download and what software is required
In-house mockups

Mockups created by our team are 100% free and can be instantly downloaded. Each file download includes:

  • A ZIP archive containing all the files
  • High-resolution PSD mockup file(s)
  • Any included documentation or assets

Simply download the ZIP file, extract it to your computer, and open the PSD file in your preferred editing software.

Contributor mockups

Some mockups are created by independent designers within our community. For these files, the download button will take you directly to the contributor's website, where the files are hosted. Simply follow the author instructions to access the files.

PSD Mockups

The vast majority of our mockups are provided as PSD files. They can be edited using either Photoshop or Photopea (free browser-based editor).

Figma mockups

Figma mockups require Figma to edit. These are usually used for digital interface presentations such as in websites and apps.

Sketch mockups

Sketch mockups are edited using Sketch's native layers and symbols.

Each mockup page clearly states the file format and required software before you download.

How to edit and customize a mockup

Our PSD mockups use Smart Objects, allowing you to replace the sample artwork with your own design in just a few minutes.

  • Open the PSD file in Photoshop or Photopea.
  • In the Layers panel, locate the layer marked with a Smart Object icon or named something like your design here, replace design, or edit me.
  • Double-click the Smart Object thumbnail.
  • A new document will open containing the placeholder artwork.
  • Paste, resize and position your artwork into this new document.
  • Save the Smart Object document:
  • Photoshop: file → save Photopea: file → save smart object
  • Close the window then return to the original mockup and your design will automatically appear with the correct perspective, lighting, and effects.
Many mockups also include additional editable layers that let you customise:
  • background color
  • element colors
  • shadows
  • highlights
  • lighting effects

These layers are usually clearly labelled inside the PSD for easy editing.

Editing Figma mockups

Figma mockups are edited directly inside Figma.

Simply open the file, locate the design frame or placeholder, and replace it with your own artwork. Depending on how the file was created, you may need to update images, components, or masks while preserving the existing layout and effects.

Editing Sketch mockups

Sketch mockups work similarly to Photoshop Smart Objects.

Open the Sketch file, locate the editable placeholder or symbol, replace it with your own design, and save your changes. The mockup will automatically update while preserving its layout and styling.
